Emily and Alex’s Sky Blue Wedding at Burritt on the Mountain | Huntsville, Alabama

Some weddings stick with me because of one big moment.

Emily and Alex’s stuck with me because I loved getting to document every part of their day.

On May 31, 2025, Emily and Alex got married at Burritt on the Mountain in Huntsville, Alabama. One thing I loved about their wedding was that everything happened right there on the property. From getting ready and first looks to portraits, the ceremony, and the reception, we never had to leave the mountain. There’s something so nice about having everything in one place and being able to enjoy the day without constantly worrying about getting somewhere else.

They chose sky blue and white for their wedding colors, with a more modern style inspired by downtown Birmingham and botanical gardens. Everything felt fresh, simple, and really pretty without being too formal.

Getting Ready on the Mountain

I think getting ready might honestly be one of my favorite parts of a wedding day.

I love those first few hours when everyone is getting ready and the excitement is starting to set in. The dress hanging up, all the little details laid out, friends talking and getting ready together. There’s usually a little bit of nervousness mixed in with all the excitement, and I love getting to photograph those moments before the day really gets going. So many of my favorite photos come from the little things happening when nobody’s thinking about the camera.

Two First Looks Before the Ceremony

Emily and Alex actually planned two first looks before their ceremony, which I loved!

At 2:15, Emily did a first look with her bridesmaids. I always love including these moments in a wedding day because it’s so fun getting to photograph everyone’s reactions when they finally see the bride all dressed and ready.

Then at 2:30, it was Alex’s turn to see Emily.

One thing I really love about doing a first look is how much breathing room it gives everyone. We had time for portraits without feeling like we were racing the clock, and Emily and Alex got to spend a little time together before the ceremony. Wedding days go by so quickly, so I’m always happy when couples can have a few quiet moments together in the middle of everything.

Portraits at The View and by the Mansion

If you’ve ever been to Burritt on the Mountain, you already know how pretty the property is. We started portraits at The View, which has that gorgeous open view from the mountain, and then made our way over to the mansion for a completely different look.

I love when a venue gives us a little variety without having to go very far. We were able to get those big, open portraits overlooking the mountain and then some softer, more classic portraits around the historic mansion. Both spots photograph so beautifully, and I love having that variety in a wedding gallery!

A 5:30 Ceremony at Burritt

Their ceremony started at 5:30, right there on the mountain.

When I’m photographing a ceremony, I’m always looking at the whole picture and the little things happening within it. Of course, I want those beautiful wide photos that show what everything looked like, but I also want the moments you might not even notice while they’re happening. The little glances, someone squeezing a hand, or the reactions happening around you. Those are the kinds of photos that help you remember what the day actually felt like.

The Reception (My Other Favorite Part)

Okay, if getting ready is one of my favorite parts of a wedding, the reception is probably right up there with it.

Emily and Alex made their grand entrance and went straight into their first dance. After that came the mother and son dance, which I was so happy to photograph.

Then came cake and a whole lot of celebrating. Some of my favorite reception photos are the ones where everyone finally relaxes and just gets to enjoy the night together.

One of my favorite little surprises from the reception was when Emily decided to give her bouquet away instead of doing a traditional bouquet toss. I love when couples find little ways to make their wedding day their own, and this was one of those moments I was so glad to photograph.

They ended the night with a spark send off. Such a fun way to wrap up their wedding day on the mountain!
